about
‘Hoover’s Brain’ was the first complete song that I ever wrote and played in a band.
I first moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1980 where I met up with Phil Pratt (Pridy Strynge). We found that we had many common interest in music and thinking which lead to us forming our first band together that we called "the Corporate Whores." We added Matt Griffin on bass, I played guitar (band name - der Dentist, because I inflicted pain with my sound), and Phil played drums (we called him Duck Sticks back then).
Ronnie Reagan had just taken over the world and things were not looking good for the future of the world. Phil and I both worked for horrible corporations as lowly laborers for no pay, outside in the one hundred degrees plus desert heat. That’s where the name “Corporate Whores’ came from because that was what we were at the time. We started writing a lot of politically motivated songs because we were pissed at the world and ‘Hoover’s Brain’ was my first.
The name of the song was eventually changed to "Hinkley's Brain" to celebrate the hero that almost saved us from Ronnie's hell (Most people didn’t know who J Edgar Hoover was at the time.). It became a long time part of the song list for my second band "Useless Pieces of Shit."
‘Hinkley's Brain’ was the name that most people remember the song, so I decided to do a remake of it under the original name, ‘Hoover’s Brain’ and with the original lyrics.
lyrics
J. Edgar Hoover's brain's not dead.
It leading subliminal armies instead.
It's insane, I'm insane, It's turned its power to pain.
It's insane, I'm insane, It's Hoover's, J. Edgar Hoover's brain.
All the young agents Knew their deeds,
Because Nixon's the one that Hoover relieved.
It's insane, I'm insane, It's turned its power to pain.
It's insane, I'm insane, It's Hoover's, J. Edgar Hoover's brain.
It's insane, I'm insane, It's had its power regained.
It's insane, I'm insane, It's Hoover's, it's Hoover's brain.
